Except in the Cases of Rape and Incest...

This argument has always struck me as rather absurd.

Either the life of the unborn child has human rights or it doesn't.

Why would the circumstances of the conception have any influence on the value of the conceived?

Rape has everything to do with the Mother. Imagine raising a child that is a product of a brutal crime committed against your body and mind.

Incest has more to do with the Child, since maybe its to protect against deformities etc.

I do think there's some gray area to this issue, of which you've touched on.

Gray area to say the least.

I only want to add that incest could have as much to do with the mother as rape does. Because a lot of times incest is rape.

None of this refutes the argument that a child has a right to life. It's just an offering for the original question, which asked what circumstances of conception would impact the resulting decision.

My argument was actually intentioned specifically to avoid that gray area.

If you believe that the child has human rights, the circumstances of the conception, no matter how obscene, would not influence those rights.

If you believe that the child does not have human rights, it's irrelevant as well.

This is definitely an illogical argument among people who claim they are pro-life (or anti-choice) and value the conceived. Sabai is correct in noting that if life begins at conception then "deformities" and the circumstances of the conception are irrelevant. Someone who says they believe that life begins at conception but then uses this argument really isn't being honest with himself.

I think the argument has roots, though, within a pro-choice position that doesn't make a claim that life (worthy of human rights) begins at conception. If someone finds the principle issue to be a woman's right to control her body - and all that resides within it - then how a fetus came into being is relevant.

Never met someone who was raped and hated their child. I imagine it could happen in people who already have serious problems, but they shouldnt be parents anyway = allow the child to be raised by parents or adopted
