Encylopedia You and the Mystery of the Gutted

The Facts:

I was mowing my backyard this weekend and came across a bloody leg. Confused, I looked around and saw nothing. Then, as I got to the other side of the yard, I came across fly-swarmed intestines. I continued my search to find a hand in the middle of both these discoveries. And in the far corner of the yard, what I had been waiting for, a rabbit head.

The Mystery:

A. Our fence and backyard are completely enclosed, so that animals can not enter.
B. The rabbit parts were strewn about the yard.

How did this happen?

Fence? Hah! We (animals) laugh at your fences.

Rabbits have hands?

well, i didn't want to ruin the surprise before we got to the head. paw would narrow it down too much.

The Great I'm Not said...

a hawk

that was our best guess, too, but i didn't want to limit the brainstorming.

I'm pretty sure it was a hawk. One time at my in-laws, our dog found an eviscerated rabbit carcass hanging from a tree branch 2-3 feet off the ground. I inspected the carcass, and it was clearly the work of a beaked animal.

P.S. I loved Encyclopedia Brown as a kid, and I find that many people don't know who he is!

Pardummy is right. Fences keep humans out (sometimes), but not much else. Nature one, humans zero.

A disgruntled neighbor....watch out this is the first step to mass murder.

that thought crossed our minds, too. i don't think we've made any enemies, yet?
